The beautiful town of Criccieth is situated on the Llyn Peninsula in North West Wales and is known as "The Pearl Of Wales On The Shores Of Snowdonia". This is a rather apt description of the town that has vistas to rival those found anywhere in the world. The view obtained when entering the town from the Porthmadog direction, with an elevated view over the sweep of the bay and town with the castle standing proudly on it promentary, is said to rival that of the Bay of Naples. On a sunny day, of which we have plenty, it would be hard to disagree with that description.

The town itself has many attractions. The castle dominates the skyline, proudly standing on its outcrop of green felsite rock standing guard over the town as it did in days past. Originally built by the Welsh the castle changed hands several times before succumbing to fire which left it a ruin. After years of neglect and the ravages of the local boys who played there, the castle was eventually restored to the condition that you will find it today. Now under the control of Cadw the castle houses an interesting exhibition to peruse before you make the steep climb up to the castle itself. From the castle there are fantastic views of the town, the sea, the mountains of Snowdonia, and the coastline as it sweeps south past Cader Idris and the mountains of Mid Wales.
